Know Theatre Announces 2nd US Premiere Musical for Summer 2008
WHAT’S THE POINT?! opened in 2007 in New York City at The Reprise Room on West 54th Street and returns there in September. Know Theatre of Cincinnati is proud to bring the cabaret musical to another city for the first time ever this summer.
WHAT’S THE POINT?! is a musical based on the popular 1950s and 1960s revue styles, which were known for commenting on popular trends and on society in general. The story is told through a series of musical vignettes that playfully tease cell phone addicts, modern parenting, the lack of datable straight men in New York City and more.
“I found this piece through the cabaret scene in New York. After hearing the first few songs, I knew it would be perfect match for Know Theatre’s summer show,” says Jason Bruffy, Artistic Director of Know Theatre of Cincinnati. “This is the type of show that Cincinnati audiences have been requesting, and now we’re providing them the opportunity to see this great cabaret on the Underground stage which has the feel of a New York venue,” says Bruffy.
This new musical is fast-paced with each member of the three-person cast playing a variety of characters. Dan Davidson, just back from Los Angeles, and two-year Know Theatre company member Elizabeth Holt, who is New York bound, will both star in the show, with a third performer to be named later. “I am excited to be performing here one more time before I move in August because this is the theatre that brought me to Cincinnati,” says Holt.
WHAT’S THE POINT?! fills the summer slot previously held by shows like THRILL ME: THE LEOPOLD AND LOEB STORY, as well as the award-winning THE LAST SUNDAY IN JUNE.
According to the musical’s official website (wtpoint.com), the show was developed through a gay perspective, but has universal themes. “Scoping out diverse theatre is a priority for us,” says Bruffy. “The piece also stays true to Know’s provocative style and diverse audience by featuring GLBT themes in a lighter context.”
WHAT’S THE POINT?! opens July 18 and runs through August 12 on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 PM, and Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:30 PM. Ticket prices are $15 and are available at Know Theatre of Cincinnati. For ticket information, contact the box office at 513.300.KNOW (5669).
