Offering curriculum-based theatrical performances, Know-To-Go is dedicated to developing today's children into the next generation of theatre audiences. This touring outreach program performs in Tri-State area schools, as well as in bookstores, galleries, community centers, and corporate diversity training programs.

Experimental, performance art-based work has been a Know-To-Go niche. Works such as SHINE: Women’s Perspectives, RISE: Reflections of One Race, TORN: Gay in America, BANNED: Suppressed Literature, and Kayumanggi: Filipino Stories for Children and have been performed for a wide array of groups, organizations, and schools.

Programs on the Know-To-Go bill this year include:

Brothers Grimm

Know Theatre’s The Brothers Grimm takes young audiences on a journey through Grimm’s Fairytales. Think you know the stories? Do you know the real stories? This 35-minute performance highlights the original versions of these age old tales, in digestible fashion, contrasting them against the modern day Disney interpretations. The cast of The Brothers Grimm keeps the audience engaged while opening their minds to the world of myth, spoonerism and folklore. It’s the ideal treat for the young imagination. The show is augmented by a Q&A with the audience after the performance. Recommended for grades 3-6.

A Box of Shel Silverstein

Know Theatre’s Shel presents and interactive romp through the poetry of Shel Silverstein, author of the classic collections Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic Shel invites young audiences to explore the lyricism of Silverstein’s work, while allowing them to take part in reading and acting out some of the American poet’s best known writings. The performance includes a talk-back with the audience. Recommended for grades K-6.

This.is.America

A series of monologues culled from personal experiences involving the dynamics of race, gender, creed, and sexual orientation. The stories are told in first person, highlighting the many misconceptions we as individuals sometimes have about individuals from other walks of life. The show challenges students perceptions and opens the door for personal reflection and group discussion in a post show talk back with the actors. Recommended for grades 7-12.

Know-To-Go performances run approximately 50 minutes, including a question-and-answer between the audience and actors. Study guides are also available.
