Overview

This musical adaptation of Elmer Rice’s 1923 play is a heartbreaking and brilliant tale of the life of middle-class worker, Mr. Zero. After 25 years of service to his company he is replaced by a mechanical adding machine and in a vengeful rage, murders his boss. Zero arrives at an afterlife in the Elysian Fields where he is forced to decide his fate for eternity. The angelic and remarkably eclectic score gives each character a unique voice for their hopes, dreams, and failures as they wander through their monotonous and darkly comic lives.

Behind the Scenes

Bloody Sunday - One of the more interesting projects that I’ve been working on is a formula for FAKE BLOOD! But not just any fake blood, this fake blood must be able to wash out of Bob’s white shirt every night for up to 20 nights (including tech rehearsals)!

Steampunk - Adding Machine has the kind the kind of music that infiltrates your brain and takes neurons hostage. It demands your attention and won’t let go. I wake up in the middle of the night from dreams of shifting and rotating scenic pieces with the show’s finale, “Music of the Machine,” pulsing in my head.

Adding Machine: A Musical costume drawings - Sketches from costume designer Susan Toy for several of the character's costumes in the show.

Getting ready for the 1920's
- As a costume designer, I love to do period shows. And doing a show set in the 1920s is great.
