Overview

A funny, slightly warped and ultimately hopeful look at the apocalypse that follows a young marine biologist as he prepares for the imminent end of the world. Jo shows up one evening having answered an online ad for a casual encounter that promises "sex to change the course of the world." That he's gay and she hates babies is the least of their problems. His plans for "intensely significant coupling" is more than his first date bargained for, food is running out, and his marine lab-turned-shelter is now beyond repair. Now about that woman Barbara in the corner...why does she seem to be controlling everyone?

Behind the Scenes

Designing the Boom: notes on scenic design by Andrew Hungerford - "On occasion a script comes along that appeals to me on a number of levels other than standard literary stuff and design potential. It’s got things that connect with me personally, moments where I go, wow, I am that guy. "

Thank goodness for... - "Our task was simple. We were shopping for provisions for the impending end of the world."

boom opening - "Well here we go, it’s two days from opening and we’re slamming this puppy up. Everyone is busting their butts to get things wonderful and amazing for opening; so far so good."

Director Drew Fracher talks about boom - "One of the things I find most challenging about the script, as well as most interesting, is the fact that it is full of such snappy dialogue and how we bring the comedy out while still telling the story clearly and succinctly. Comedy is really difficult to get right so that in and of itself is a huge challenge."
